Soldier's Wife     Will and Amy Downing   2007

Four o’clock in the morning, his bags already packed
He walks into the kids’ rooms, pats them on the back
He leans in close, says goodbye…a soft peck on the cheek
A tear of pride runs down my face ‘cause I know freedom don’t come cheap

Phone calls and letters, can’t wait to get them both
Missed plays and birthdays when's Daddy coming home
Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by all the daily grind
I ask the LORD please don’t let me go out of my mind

              Chorus:

              I’m a Soldier’s Wife it’s what I’m proud to be
When he’s gone, the kids depend on me
When he gets back we’ll get back on track
The way things used to be
              I’m a Soldier’s Wife, it’s what I’m proud to be

One more day ‘til he comes home
              We’ve made it another year
The excitement and happiness that I have are overcome with fear
What if today is the day I get that call
              The one we always dread
I give the kids their goodnight kiss and head off to bed

I take a deep breath, LORD I prayed every night
              I can’t be alone…oh no
Then a tear of joy comes down my face
I know that GOD will bring him home

              Chorus:
              ‘Cause I’m a Soldier’s Wife, it’s what I’m proud to be
And when he’s gone the kids depend on me
When he gets back, we’ll get back on track the way things used to be
              I’m a Soldier’s Wife, it’s what I’m proud to be
              I’m a Soldier’s Wife….
              It’s what I’ll ALWAYS be!

Searching    Amy Downing, Stephanie Sharp   2009

A momma holds her baby tight
Wipes a - single teardrop from her eye
A letter to her husband in her hand
She wonders - what a year alone will be like
As a single mother and a Soldier’s wife
Will she - be a different person than she was when he left

              Chorus:
If you have to go searching
              Search inside yourself
What you need has been right there all along
When the weight of the world’s on your shoulders
              Strength won’t let you down
Hope wraps her arms around you in your darkest hour

              A Soldier folds a letter
              That he’s read a 100 times
A picture of a new born in his hand
He’s scared of what duty calls him to do
As he fights for freedom and his heart is true
He’s afraid of returning home a different man

              Chorus:
If you have to go searching
              Search inside yourself
What you need has been right there all along
When your mind is clouded with worry
Peace comes and makes it clear
Courage holds your hand in the face of fear

              Bridge:
The day has come when their eyes will meet
A one year old at his momma’s feet
Takes some shaky steps to finally meet his dad
Despite the challenges they have faced
Their time apart and the ways they’ve changed
They feel that strong devotion that they’ve always had

              Chorus:
Your days of searching are over
              You’ve finally found the truth
What you needed had been right there all along
When the road ahead was uncertain
              Faith was your best friend
Love built a bridge over distance and time
Don’t ever think you don’t have what it takes to get by
All you gotta do is search, search inside

              Indeed     Jett, Shuff, Downing 2002

I was turn’n heads when I walked into the bar
Fueled by the sound of the steel guitar
When suddenly appeared before my eyes
This good lookin country cowboy guy
My oh my I could only do one thing
I turned to “Operation Stake My Claim”

There was eye battin, thigh pattin
              There ain’t now doubt
              We were not think’n
              Just beer drink’n
              let’n it all hang out
I asked him if he’d like to dance and follow my lead
And with a big ole cowboy grin he said “Indeed”

Worked up a sweat two stepped had a lot of fun
Heard last call and the lights came on
I knew that it was time to say goodbye
This cowboy with his puppy dog eyes
              Desperation guaranteed
It was “Operation Man In Need”

There was eye battin, thigh pattin
              There ain’t now doubt
His little 9-11 had him just about beggin
              Wanting to find out
With nothing to loose he said
Can I call you please oh yeah
And with a wink of an eye
              I smiled and replied “INDEED”

Will he come crawlin, phone callin
              Oh wantin to play
Will there be chance takin, love makin
              Only time can say
If one day I get lucky
We’ll have to wait and see
But I got this funny feeling…..INDEED!

Army Wife Blues    Amy Downing & Stephanie Sharp  2008

The basements flooded I miss you
The grass is way too long
These things seem to always happen
When you’re so far away from home
Jr. crapped his pants the 4th time today
The dog barfed on the floor
Kids started fighting at 7am I can’t take it anymore

              Chorus:
It would be real nice if you were her
My misery could use some easin’
Being without you is such a drag
And I sure could use some pleasin’
So until the day you step off that plane
And US soil hits your boots
You know babe I’ll be right here and I’m singing
              The Army wife blues…

The truck has a flat I miss you
              I could use a girl’s night out
Uncle Sam stole my free babysitter
I could punch him in the mouth
Don’t get me wrong sweet honey baby
I’m so proud of what you do
I just can’t take another second of this being with out you

              Chorus:
It would be real nice if you were here
My sanity could use some easin’
Being without you is such and drag
And I still could use some pleasin’
So until the day you step off that plane
And US soil hits your boots you
You know babe I’ll be right here and I’m singing
              Yes I’m singing….

So until the day you step off that plane and US soil hits your boots
You know babe I’ll be right here in my negligee and a six pack of beer
No more singing the Army Wife Blues

Just Let Me Cry   Amy Downing & Stephanie Sharp  2009

Being strong is what I do best
For the kids, myself and you
I hide emotions behind a smile
Seems like the right thing to do
Don’t want my worries bringing you down
So I push all my feelings aside
It’s time I show you how I feel
These tears I can no longer hide

              CHORUS:
              So just let me cry
              These tears are gonna fall
              I can’t keep pretending
              They’re nothing at all
Let me honor my fears, my worries
              Heartache and pain
              I need some time
              So just let me cry

I miss you more now than when you were gone
              Seems like we’re growing apart
Let’s work on getting back in touch
Cause right now it’s breaking my heart
              We’re telling ourselves “Everything’s fine,
              Yeah we’re all doing okay”
When all I can think about right now
Is bring back all the yesterday’s

              CHORUS
Oh this can’t go on…all these feelings inside
I need to let go…of the man I don’t know
              So just let me cry
Hold me close to your heart
Let’s make up for the years
              We’ve spent apart
I want the man that I love
              Back in my arms
              Tell me it’ll be alright
              And just let me cry

              Baby kiss me good night
              And just let me cry

Army Wives: A League Of Extraordinary Women
Amy Downing, Stephanie Sharp & Jennifer Bogdanowitz   2008

The car broke down and the dog ran away
              The toilet backed up
              And today’s my birthday.
Johnny stuck a grape up his nose
So I piled the kids in the truck
              Backin’ out of the driveway
I ran over Sally’s brand new bike that she just got for Christmas…and it’s pick….oh darn.

Steph came by with her tools in tow
Jen dropped off a plunger and she found Fido
Kim met me at the hospital
Cause the kids were climbin’ the walls
I’m calling the reinforcements ‘cause I don’t want to do it alone…And it’s only day one.

              Chorus:
Our husbands are heroes around the world
And we are heroes here at home
In the midst of our crazy lives
              We do what we do
              We stand faithful, strong togethe
              Building bonds that last forever
              Army Wives:
              A League of Extraordinary Women

              I’m trying to stay strong,
              especially when he calls
              I am moving heavy furniture
              and painting every wall
567 bandaids later, I’m payin’ the bills & mowin’ the grass
Bein’ both Mom & Dad for 12 months and sometimes 15
              Is kickin’ my…rear.

              Chorus:
Our husbands are heroes around the world
And we are heroes here at home
In the midst of our crazy lives
              We do what we do
              We stand faithful, strong together
              Building bonds that last forever
              Army Wives:
              A League of Extraordinary Women

              Thanking God every day
              For my fellow Army Wives.
How would I make it through this life
              Without them by my side
We got each other’s backs no doubt
‘Cause we know what this life’s about
Stickin’ together when push comes to shove
Livin’ this crazy life we love

              Chorus:
Our husbands are heroes around the world
And we are heroes here at home
In the midst of our crazy lives
              We do what we do
Here for each other day or night
As our husbands fight the good fight
              Yes we are, Army Wives:
              A League of Extraordinary Women
